Make a joyful noise

The Bible exalts us to make a joyful noise. Making something involves deliberate concerted effort in order to bring forth what is conceived in the mind. There are different kinds of noise. When we think of noise, it usually connotes something negative or undesired, something that disrupts peace or ability to communicate. The Psalmist however wants Christians to make a joyful noise, this therefore means that there is sound that is pleasant to God’s ears.

God is not perturbed by the quality of your voice but the quality of your heart. He desires the kind of joyful noise that flow from hearts that is in awe of Him and those who are overwhelmed with gratitude for His mercy, salvation, deliverance and wonderful works. Christians like other humans face various life situations: some good and others very undesirable. Undesirable situations should not stop us from seeing God and lifting up holy hands in praise.

Psalm 100 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. [2] Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

Isaiah 12:2-6 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. [3] Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. [4] And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. [5] Sing unto the Lord ; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. [6] Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.

Luke 19:5-7 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

Zacchaeus broke forth in joy when Jesus Christ found him and chose to dine at his house. Do you break forth in joy when you remember the day you were saved? The Psalmist wants us to produce noise or sound that is filled with joy. This can only happen when you are satisfied and grateful

Psalm 35:9-10 And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord : it shall rejoice in his salvation. [10] All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

Ephesians 5:18-20 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Wise and grateful groups and individuals make joyful noise realising that God is the one who uphold them in all situations. If there was a word to describe King David, it would be “Worshipper”. He was a specialist in joyful noise, he invented worship instruments, assigned 4000 to specially praise God. Himself danced almost naked defying so called guidelines or protocols to guide royal conduct. He was not oblivious of the fact that him being king was only made possible because of the grace and favour shown him by God.

Psalm 107:15-16 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! [16] For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.

Making joyful noise is with totality of our being. Praise overflows from hearts that are bubbling with reverence and gratitude which cannot be contained within. The unchallengeable nature of God, His majestic and all powerful nature, the relationship we have with Him, victories and deliverances God made possible…should facilitate a lot of joy in the hearts of Christians. The wonderful works of God must be spoken about. Refuse to be silent about God’s goodness, that is just what the enemy desires. We are not being proud when we speak or sing about the greatness of our God.

Psalm 9:1-2 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. [2] I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

Ask the Holy Spirit to grow you and enable production of this fruit in you. Make joyful noise in praise unto God, we are created to celebrate Him and His goodness with everything about us. Make a joyful noise, let it resound
